Climbing Mera Peak 6454mtr is a rewarding challenge within stunning mountain scenery. For this reason Mera Peak is a popular climbing destination for many adventurous people who would like to gain high altitude experience. The view from the summit is one of the finest in the Himalayas with five 8,000m peaks visible: Mt. Everest (8848m), Cho-Oyu (8201m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m), Kanchenjunga (8586m). Mera peak climbing itinerary has been carefully designed to allow for gradual ascend and proper acclimatization. After an exciting flight to Lukla, the first day we trek to Paiya (2800m). From here we follow the route staying overnight at the villages of Pangkongomapa, Nashingma, Chholem to reach Khola Khara (4270 m) on our fourth day of hiking. This is where we will be over the tree line. As we continue our steady climb we will hike along the Hinku valley following the west side of Hinku river passing montage grassland, through juniper and rhododendron thickets to hemlock and silver fir forests. Along the way we get amazing views of the Himalayan ranges. From here we start the ascent to our next lodge site at Tangnag (4300 m) via Kote (3550 m). We have to further acclimatize before we head ahead to higher altitude hence we will spend an extra night with acclimatization hikes at Tangnag.
From Here we hike to Khare (5050 m). We will again spend an extra day here acclimatizing as well as practicing our climbing skills using crampons, ice axes and zoomer which will give us high chances of success. Being well acclimatized we head to to high camp. And the next day push for summit. We start for the summit early in the morning and once at the top the views from the sun rising over Kanchenjunga in the east, past Makalu to the plumed Everest Himal in the center and Cho Oyu further west, make every painful step well worthwhile. After the summit we return back to Lukla reaching Lukla on our 16 day of trek.
